Murwillumbah Wedding Celebrant

Murwillumbah sits at the foot of Wollumbin (Mount Warning), where the Tweed Valley really opens up. Distilleries, organic farms, rainforest cabins and a country chapel by the river — all within fifteen minutes of town.

Murwillumbah wedding ceremony signing

Murwillumbah doesn't have one big landmark wedding venue inside the town itself — the magic is all in the valley around it. Within a fifteen-minute drive you get Husk Distillers in Tumbulgum, Mavis's Kitchen at the base of Wollumbin, Summergrove Estate up on the QLD-border ridge, and Tropical Fruit World's hilltop Botanica Plantation House. The town itself is the launching pad: cafés, the Margaret Olley Art Centre, accommodation, and easy airport access.

The drawcard is Wollumbin itself. The mountain sits north-west of the town and dominates every photograph from the surrounding properties. Couples wanting that "we got married at the foot of an ancient mountain" feel land here.

"Murwillumbah weddings have a quality that Byron has lost — they feel like a country wedding, not a destination wedding."

Where Murwillumbah weddings happen

For working-distillery weddings, Husk Distillers in Tumbulgum (12 min) is the most photographed property in the Tweed Valley — sugar cane, rum, cellar door, capacity to about 150. For organic-farm rustic, Mavis's Kitchen & Cabins at Uki (15 min) sits at the foot of Wollumbin with restored Queenslander, gardens, and on-site accommodation.

For polished estate weddings, Summergrove Estate at Carool (15 min) has a white chapel and lakeside ceremony lawns. For hilltop drama, Botanica Plantation House at Tropical Fruit World (15 min) sits on a 360-degree view to Wollumbin.

For intimate riverside ceremonies, the Tweed River Chapel at Tumbulgum is a small white picket-fence chapel on the river — perfect for elopements and small ceremonies. Mt Warning Rainforest Park at Uki is the rainforest option for couples who want it really lush.

I travel from Casuarina on the Tweed Coast — about 30 minutes to Murwillumbah, longer to the outlying venues. Small travel fee for Tweed Valley weddings. For intimate ceremonies, my legal-only ceremony works beautifully at any of these spots. From $550.

The valley spreads wide — these are the six properties I send couples to most often.

Quick questions

Closer to the Tweed Coast (about 25 minutes) than Byron Bay (about 45 minutes). It's technically in Tweed Shire, not Byron Shire. The Tweed Valley feels like its own region — neither full coast nor full Byron hinterland.

The mountain is a sacred site for the Bundjalung people and visually dominates the valley. Most couples find their photos end up being as much about Wollumbin as about the venue itself — it's a backdrop you can't fake.

From Casuarina, around 25 to 40 minutes depending on the venue. Small travel fee — usually $60 to $120. Always quoted upfront.

Some venues (Mavis's, Summergrove, Mt Warning Rainforest Park) have on-site accommodation. Otherwise Murwillumbah town has a good mix of motels and B&Bs, and Kingscliff/Casuarina on the coast is 25 minutes away with much more accommodation.
